Campus Security
University of Kentucky
ABOUT
History
Anthany Beatty, the assistant vice president of campus services at University of Kentucky, worked as a campus police officer in the 1970s before leaving to work for the Lexington Police Department (Griffin 2013). As of 2012, Beatty acknowledged that the security measures in place at University of Kentucky have hardly changed at all (Griffin 2013). Prior to 2012, University of Kentucky had about 30 security cameras in place around campus, all operating on individual systems (Griffin 2013). It was an inefficient method and many violations on campus were going unnoticed. Another point of concern was the lack of an individual notification system for students and faculty in case of an emergency. Both of these factors, among many others, contributed to the major technological upgrades regarding campus security that began in 2012.
